Most visitors to Glacier National Park will pass through West Glacier on their way up the Going-to-the-Sun Road. Those that don’t stop are missing out.
In the village you’ll find the West Glacier Café, a charming diner open for breakfast lunch and dinner, the West Glacier Mercantile, the perfect place to stock up on groceries and camping supplies, Glacier Village Sweet Treats, where you can satisfy your sweet tooth with local Montana ice cream, and several gift shops featuring souvenirs, clothing and local artwork.
Lodging is also available in the West Glacier Village. Guests can stay right in town at the modest West Glacier Motel or in cabins on the bluff that feature stunning views of the Middle Fork of the Flathead River.
There are also plenty of activities in West Glacier. The town’s “take-out beach” is the terminus for whitewater rafting trips and for the several rafting companies and fishing outfitters that call West Glacier home. Nearby, visitors can also rent boats and paddles boards in Apgar Village on the shores of Lake McDonald in Glacier National Park.
