Glacier National Park is known for its unforgettable hiking trails - and West Glacier has plenty. The Apgar Lookout trail is a strenuous, yet rewarding hike with spectacular views of Lake McDonald. The trailhead is just up the road from West Glacier. Avalanche Lake, one of the park’s most popular trails, is a bit further into the park. It’s a moderate trail that ends in a beautiful alpine lake and is 17 miles up the Going-to-the-Sun Road. We recommend getting to the trailhead early to beat the crowds, but if you’re staying in West Glacier, you already have a head start!
